I love it when students discover something on their own – something beyond the syllabus or the lecture that they were interested enough to dig up for themselves. That’s when they really own the knowledge.
Their understanding of themselves as a piece of the whole. This is not an art that we do alone. This is an art that takes an awful lot of people to bring to life. Seeing opportunities to make not only the end product, but each other better is the ultimate goal.
I’ve had a lot of amazing influences, but I always trace my love of storytelling (the basis of theatre) back to my maternal grandfather. We called him Gandalf. He was a storyteller, a barbershop singer, a magician… he taught me how it feels to be swept up by a story.
