The 13th annual Progeny Film Festival returns to the Lyric Theatre with a variety of original short films. The festival will screen and judge selected submissions from filmmakers on the East Coast as well as regional university and high school students.
$500 cash prizes will be awarded by a panel of judges in the categories of fiction, documentary, and college student entry. There will also be awards for audience choice and best high school submission. Guests will have the opportunity to win door prizes.
About twenty films were selected for screening. The panel of judges includes Karl Precoda (Virginia Tech), Stephen Prince (Virginia Tech), Mike Allen (Roanoke Times), and Jochen Kunstler (Virginia Commonwealth University).
As a part of the evening, the Lololpolis improv troupe will perform.
The Progeny Film Festival is an annual event hosted by Virginia Tech's School of Performing Arts in Blacksburg, Virginia. Progeny's mission is to foster and showcase short, thoughtful, independent-minded, DIY-spirited, artful films by filmmakers from Southwest Virginia and the surrounding areas.
