The Virginia Tech String Project (VTSP) is a non-profit instructional program dedicated to offering affordable string instrument instruction to elementary students while training future string music educators.
Graduate and undergraduate teachers, under the supervision of Virginia Tech Music faculty, give small group and individualized instruction on: violin, viola, cello, and string bass.
Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00pm at Virginia Tech and is open to all 3rd and 4th grade beginning students.
Virginia Tech String Project teachers visit public and community elementary schools during August to demonstrate instruments and recruit students for classes at Virginia Tech. A parent information and “instrument try out” meeting is then held during the first week of September in the Squires Recital Salon on the Virginia Tech campus.
Director: Nicole Paglialonga
Artistic Director: Alan Weinstein
Master Teacher: Yi-wen Evans
Assistant Conductor: Claire Vogler
Virginia Tech String Project Classes begin on September 8.
Beginning lessons on violin, viola, cello, and bass will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:00 p.m. in Squires 243.
The calendar is uninterrupted by any football schedule, so classes begin Sept 8 and meet every Tuesday/Thursday until the concert on December 9, 2015. The schedule for the Virginia Tech String Project will follow the Virginia Tech school schedule for breaks (no classes November 24 or 26 for Thanksgiving); and will follow the public school system for inclement weather (i.e. we are closed when they are closed).
Parents interested in enrolling their students should complete and return the registration form and attend the parent information and student instrument tryout night on August 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Squires Recital Salon.
The fee is $50 per semester and instrument rental plans are available at Greg Bump at Rocket Music.
