The Virginia Tech String Project (VTSP) is a non-profit instructional program dedicated to offering affordable string instrument instruction to elementary students while training future string music educators.

How the Virginia Tech String Project Works

Graduate and undergraduate teachers, under the supervision of Virginia Tech Music faculty, give small group and individualized instruction on: violin, viola, cello, and string bass.

Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-6 pm for beginning and second year students, and 6-7pm for third year and youth orchestra students.
Virginia Tech String Project is open to all beginning students third grade and up, no experience necessary.

Virginia Tech String Project teachers and staff visit schools to perform for students and allow them to try out the various string instruments with our annual 'instrument petting zoo.'  Our general interest meeting for new parents is held after the school tours. The information will be sent home with the students.

Program Announcements

Virginia Tech String Project

In the fall semester, with the possibility of winter weather, please remember that when Montgomery County Schools close due to inclement weather, we will also close.  Please check the VTSP Facebook page, email blasts, and/or  WDBJ Channel 7 to confirm weather-related cancellations.

During the spring semester, we build on the techniques the students learned in the fall.  It is due to this continuation of skill building that we cannot accept new enrollments in the spring term.  However, we would gladly welcome any of those interested in getting ahead by enrolling in private lessons with one of our capable staff members!  Please contact the director for more information.

The fee for the Virginia Tech String Project $50 per semester and instrument rental plans are available at Greg Bump at Rocket Music.

For more information contact Nicole Paglialonga.
