Virginia Trombone Festival

A gala concert featuring music for the trombone by Virginia composers and arrangers performed by professional trombonists from Virginia and West Virginia.

Original works to be performed will include "Smeared Hexachords (Book I)" by Eric Lyon (Virginia Tech) and Sonata for Trombone and Piano by Kent Holliday (Professor Emeritus Virginia Tech). 

Arrangements to performed will include "The Swan for Solo Trombone and Jazz Ensemble" arranged by Terry Vosbein (Washington and Lee University), Earth, Wind and Fire’s "Fantasy" arranged for six trombones and rhythm section arranged by Chris Sharp (Lynchburg University), Verdi’s "Grand March and Finale" from Aida Act III, and "Hunding’s Trombones" arranged by James Sochinski (Virginia Tech), among others.

Professional trombone players from Lynchburg University, Liberty University, Redford University, Concord University, West Virginia University, Virginia Tech, Old Dominion University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Harrisonburg’s professional trombone ensemble, Mr. Jefferson's Bones will perform. In addition, Virginia Tech music faculty members will be featured as well as the Virginia Tech student tuba/euphonium ensemble, VTubas.
