Rebecca Meisel

Adjunct Instructor, Bassoon

Rebecca Meisel serves as the bassoon instructor at Virginia Tech. She is simultaneously teaching at both Lynchburg College and Radford University as well. She also teaches for the summer residential Governor’s School for Humanities and Visual and Performing Arts at Radford.

In addition to her positions at the university level, Rebecca operates a thriving music school, Blue Mountain Music Studio, located in Roanoke, VA. She provides private instruction in piano, flute, and bassoon to students from pre-school age up to adults. Among other events, the studio hosts two themed recitals each year.

She performs with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra as a substitute bassoonist, and plays with the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed with the University-Shenandoah Symphony Orchestra at Washington & Lee. Rebecca frequently joins various other ensembles around the area for special performance events throughout the year.

Rebecca began her study of the bassoon with Anthony DeAngelis, of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. She later went on to study with renowned Eastman professor emeritus K. David Van Hoesen. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree in bassoon performance from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, NY, under the direction of John Hunt.
